Kannawidan Festival
Kannawidan Festival is a sought-after festival for all
Ilocanos both young and old. It is a celebration that lasts from the last week
of January up to the first week of February. This festival showcases the rich
culture of Ilocos Sur that has a mix of Spanish and Filipino cultures. It is a
shame that we cannot fully enjoy the Kannawidan Festival this 2021 due to the
pandemic that is happening worldwide.
However, the provincial
government, through its provincial tourism office,
managed to plan a simpler celebration of the annual Kannawidan Festival. They
announce strict instructions to be observed for those people that will attend
the festival to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. The provincial
government requires the use of a facemask and safe pass to enter the Trade and
Food Fair in Kannawidan grounds. Under 15 years old and senior citizens are
prohibited from entering because they are more prone to catch the virus.
For me, this was a well-executed plan. We can still have a
celebration of this festival without risking our health. Even though having a simpler celebration we cannot deny the fact that it’s better to have a lot of
activities like a
beauty pageant, tribal rituals, choir, and glee club competition, marching
band contest, traditional music ensemble, dance drama, traditional and folk
dances, contemporary dance competitions, and street dancing showdown. And local
artists, bands, coming to perform every night that makes the celebration joyous.
Hoping that next year, this pandemic will end, and we can now have social
gatherings without the fear of catching the virus.

The way you organized your details is so interesting. This year, we didn't celebrate the Kannawidan Festival the way we used to but it's okay as long as we are safe. I like how simplicity stands in your blog, keep up the good work!
